Description:
On May 17, at approximately 4:58 p.m., a fire was reported at Superior Cedar Products, Inc., in Carney. A 21,000-square-foot building, which parallels U.S. 41, was quickly engulfed as a southwest wind pushed flames through the building. Over 100 firefighters and 16 fire trucks from Nadeau, Gourley and Spalding townships' volunteer fire departments responded. Mid-County Rescue Squad and WE Energies were also on scene. Flare up fires were extinguished throughout May 18. The damage is evident by the bottom photo taken May 19. Cause of the fire has not yet been determined. About 40 employees will be affected by the building's loss. There were no injuries reported. Plans are underway to rebuild the facility in the same location. About an hour after the Carney call, a fire was reported in Faithorn Township, Several units responded but a residential structure was a total loss.
