Description:

During Fire Safety Week, Stephenson Volunteer Fire Department personnel visited Stephenson Elementary School with special equipment and familiarized 200 students with several safety measures. The department rented the Fire Safety House from the Iron Mountain Fire Department and Dave Leiphart, above, helped students get down a ladder. The students learned about the dangers associated with wood-burning fireplaces, kitchen hazards, how to dial 9-1-1 and what information to give the dispatcher. They were cautioned to always leave a structure that is burning and to not go back into a burning building.
