Description:
For many years, a Christmas star at the top of a 80 foot tall silo on the Hanson Farm in Ingalls was enjoyed by motorists on US-41. As area farmers have been utilizing more bunker silos, the old tried-and-true poured concrete and cement stave silos have become somewhat obsolete. One poured cement silo on the Hanson farm in Ingalls was taken down this week by Havelka Construction of Wallace. On one side of the bottom of the silo, workers used an air hammer on an excavator and a wrecking ball to break the cement causing the silo to tip in that direction. The silo was also cabled to the boom of a second excavator. Havelka Construction cleaned up and hauled away the landmark. The stately red barns still grace the hillside.
