The Godfrey Anderson American Legion Post 43 precision drill team took first place at the 1952 Legion State Convention in Grand Rapids. The mid-county team advanced to the state competition after taking first place in U.P. competition in Iron River. The team wore maroon uniforms with white hats, gloves, leggings and ties. According to a journal news clipping, the team was diligently training under the direction of Francis Dishneau, drill master. Members of the team included, front row from left, Harold Phillippo, Edmer LaCasse, John Mellinger, Joe Bayee, and James Bastien. Standing in the back two rows, from left, are Francis Menacher, Willard "Chick" Brock, Hank Bartels, Ray Pratt, Byron "Red" Hanson, Mose Beaudoin, Al Broberg, James Beaudoin, Ernest Sharon, Walter "Ted" Brock and John Horvath. Other team members who were listed in news stories but not in this photo included, Drillmaster Francis Dishneau, Joseph Harske, Hubert LaPointe, Arthur Raboine, Edward Whitmarsh, Clifford Brown, Thomas Badish, Irvin Hood and Philip Gardiner.
