Graduate students from Mississippi State University and the Michigan DNR are working together to determine what predators are killing Whitetail deer fawns. Predators included in the study are bobcats, wolves, coyotes and bear. Team leader Nathan Svoboda, above, displays a black bear sow and her two cubs that were handled near the den site east of Talbot. The team also places radio transmitters in pregnant does that indicate when their fawns are born. The fawns are then located and also collared and followed to determine mortality rates and what predator was involved.
