Walter Dale Fader, 67, Menominee, died April 18, 2011, at his home.

Walter was born Feb. 18, 1944, in Red Oak, IA. He served in the US Army in Vietnam as a demolition expert receiving a Purple Heart. Walter loved fishing. He was a devoted Packer fan and a self taught statistician.

He is survived by three sisters, Virginia (Wayne) Good, Golden Valley, AZ, Luann Axtell, Menominee, Marian L. Merk, Wallace; one brother, Gary (Joyce) Fader, Rochester Hills, MI, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Darrell and Rachel Merk; brother, David Merk, and brother-in-law, Bob Axtell.

Graveside military services will be conducted April 22 at 2:30 p.m. in Mellen Township Cemetery, Wallace. Anderson Diehm Funeral Home, Stephenson, is assisting the family.

Carol Jane Fernstrum (Jane), 78, Menominee, died April 16, 2011.

Carol Jane Olsen was born June 17, 1932, in Menominee, to the late James and Clara (Hackeman) Olsen. Jane went to Menominee Public Schools and gradu ated with the Class of 1950. She married William Fernstrum April 15, 1950. After her children were all in school she worked for Nancy's Crafts and later taught crafts to senior citizens through the Community School Program. She loved vegetable gardening, crafts and crocheting, spending time with her family and grandchildren, going to camp, swimming in the bay, having picnics, and playing cards. She was an active member of the Presbyterian Church for over 60 years, serving as elder and deacon. She was a member of the Vasa Lodge for 44 years, serving as secretary for 20 years. Jane was active in PTA and reactivated the Cub Scout Pack at Grant School and served as a Den Leader.

She is survived by her husband; five daughters, Sheri (Roger) Zorn, Menominee, Cindy (William) Frappier, Marinette, Gail (Chris) Schei, Menominee, Julee (Oscar Burnett) Miller, Menominee, and Mary Kay (Paul) Boyce, Marinette; six sons, Scot of Cedar River, Lary (Peggy), Menominee, Lee (Giselle Grimm), Menominee, Marvin of Menominee, Michael of Largo, FL, and Mark (Nicole), Appleton, 23 grandchildren, one great-granddaughter; one sister, Lorraine Ranach, De Pere; one brother, Dale (Marilyn) Olsen; one sister-in-law, Theresa Olsen; one brother-in-law, Benjamin (Rosemary) Fernstrum, all of Menominee. She was preceded in death by one son, Craig; two brothers, Kenneth and Douglas Olsen; her parents; one brother-in-law, Michael Ranach; one sister-in-law, Bernice Fernstrum.

Wake will be held April 20, at 3 p.m. with funeral services to begin at 6 p.m. at The First Presbyterian Church, Menominee. The Rev. Ron Helgerson will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Menominee. The Cadieu Thielen Funeral Home is assisting the family. A memorial fund has been established in Jane's name.

Calvin Clarence Galineau, 80, Menominee, died April 12, 2011.

He was born Dec. 16, 1930, in Menominee, to the late Joseph and Katherine (Spitzer) Galineau. Calvin graduated from Menominee High School, Class of 1949. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He married Joyce Engler June 6, 1953. She preceded him in death Nov. 14, 2005.

He is survived by his daughter, Denise (James) Swanson; his son, Joseph (Marilynn) Galineau, both of Menominee and two grandchildren. Along with his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Sundquist and Elizabeth Baribeau; and one brother, Joseph Galineau.

Private family services were held. The Cadieu Thielen Funeral Home assisted the family.

Shirley Jean Haiar, 64, Wilson, died April 10, 2011.

She was diagnosed with Stage IV colon cancer this past fall. Shirley was born in New River, NC, the daughter of Lyman S. and Stephanie V. (Luchay) Severson. She was born April 21, 1946. She spent her childhood traveling with her parents while they served in the military and lived in many locations including Panama, Puerto Rico, Canada, Hawaii, Virginia, Kansas and Minnesota. Bunny attended Ferguson High School in Newport News, VA, graduating in 1963. On Dec. 4, 1976, Bunny married Richard J. Haiar in Newport News. For the past 20 years, she and Rich have resided in Wilson, where they spent much of their time working together on their home and garden. Bunny loved to help others with their decorating.

She is survived by her husband of Wilson; two daughters, Karyn (Kim) Keppard-Poupore, Powers, Amy Haiar, Chicago; son, Carl Keppard, Powers; mother, Stephanie (Stevie) Severson, Wells; brother, Richard (Judy) Severson, Wilson; sister, Joni McCoy, Escanaba; two stepdaughters, Trudi Price, Smithfield, VA, and Cindi Haiar, Winsor, VA. She was preceded in death by her father, Lyman.

A private service was held for the family. The Crawford Funeral Homes assisted the family with arrangements.

Patrick W. Mason, 64, Green Bay, died April 13, 2011, following a battle with COPD.

He was born March 24, 1947, in Marinette, to the late Le Roy and Madeline (Cahee) Mason. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict from 1965 until his discharge in 1967. While in service his several awards included the Purple Heart and Army Commendation for Heroism. He married Cynthia Roenfanz Aug. 17, 1968, in Marinette. She preceded him in death Feb. 12, 1982. Following his service in the Army he attended classes at UWGB earning a bachelor's degree in teaching. On March 30, 1990, he married Jacqueline Bailey at Resurrection Church in Menominee. He was employed by the United States Postal Service for 30 years until his retirement due to his health. He enjoyed cribbage, reading and crossword puzzles. Patrick especially enjoyed a game of golf and Packer games.

He is survived by his wife, Jackie; his two daughters, Naomi (Bryan) Wedin, Howard, and Jennifer (Eric) Adair, Green Bay, six grand children, one great-grand child; two sisters, Kathy (Dale) Ninneman, Howard, and Mary (Mike) Boucher, Marinette; his mother-in-law, Katherine Bailey, Menominee; two brothers-in-law, Doug Bailey and Walt (Marion) Bailey, all of Menominee; one sister-in-law, Ginnie Schultz, Wallace, Cynthia's mother, Mary Roenfanz, Marinette, Cynthia's sister, Pam (Ken) Vista, Marinette, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister, Barbara Jean Mason; Cynthia's father, Marshall Roenfanz; brother, Bart Roenfanz; brother-in-law, Dan Bailey; and father-in-law, Walter Bailey.

Emery E. Megenuph, 54, Wilson, died unexpectedly April 23, 2011, at his home of natural causes.

He was born Sept. 25, 1956, in Escanaba, son of George and Nina (Thunder) Megenuph Sr. He was raised in Hannahville and lived in Menominee for 10 years where he graduated from Menominee High School in 1988. He was employed as a welder in Menominee. He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed skiing, baseball and cutting brush.

He is survived by two brothers, George (Juanita) Megenuph, Jr., Hannahville and Russell (Judy) Dees, Marquette; three sisters, Rosemarie (Allen) Johnson, Marquette, Lena Carpenter, Hannahville, and Brenda Bailey, Escanaba, an uncle, aunts, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Warren Megenuph, Ronald Dees and Donald Dees; and sister, Carol Elder.

Visitation was at the Hannahville Community Center. The funeral service was held at the center April 17. Burial was in the Hannahville Cemetery. The Crawford Funeral Homes assisted the family.

Verna E. Mekash, 90, Harbors Retirement Community, Menominee, died, April 17, 2011.

She was born Aug. 24, 1920, in Ingallston Township, to the late Carl and Matilda Johnson. On June 22, 1946, she married Gerald J. Mekash. He preceded her in death March 19, 1999. Over the years she was employed at The Dome Supper Club and McCrory's Variety Store. She was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church, its Women's Club and Quilting Circle. Her love for sewing, quilting, needlepoint and cross-stitch earned her awards at the Menominee County Fair, the U.P. State Fair and Michigan State Fair. She also loved gardening.

She is survived by her sister, Edyth Sager, formerly of Stephenson; three sons, James (Ginny), Menominee, Terry (Janice), Jeanerette, LA, and Dale (Denise), Green Bay, six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Lester Johnson, Emrick Johnson and Harry Johnson; three sisters, Alice Backman, Agnes Kleinke and Mildred Hayward; and other relatives.

Friends may call at Bethel Lutheran Church, Menominee, from 9 to 11 a.m. April 23. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. in the church with the Rev. Dr. Lee Goodwin officiating. A luncheon will follow the service. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Menominee. Hanson Onion Martell Funeral Home is serving the family.

Joan M. Sibilsky, 93, a former resident of Niagara, WI, and a summer resident of Twin Lakes and currently residing in Menominee, died April 9, 2011, at Menominee Care Center.

Joan was born Nov. 4, 1917, in Bessmer, MI, to the late John and Victoria (Carpineto) Chiomento. In April 1940, Joan married Louis Sibilsky in Houghton, MI. He preceded her in death Sept. 28, 2002.

She is survived by one daughter, Marcia (Michael) Stich, Menominee; and one son, Gary (Bridget) Sibilsky, Bristol, WI, four grandchildren and one great-grandson, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her infant son, Stephen Sibilsky, one brother and one sister.

Private family graveside service was held April 19 at the Niagara Cemetery. The Anderson Kell Funeral Home served the family.

Joseph A. Wanek, 67, died April 12, 2011, at Rennes Health Center East.

He was born to Joseph and Edna (Getchell) Wanek, Dec. 8, 1943, in Marinette. On May 2, 1963, he married Donna Rae Palmquist. She preceded him in death in January of 1993. He spent his entire life in Marinette and had worked at M&M Box Company, as a commercial fisherman and then at L.E. Jones Company for over 30 years until retiring in December of 2003. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his mother of Menominee; a son, Brian of Arizona, two grandchildren; two brothers, Robert (Karen), Kaukauna, WI, and Richard of Menominee; two sisters, Linda (Darrell) Eland, Menominee, and Nancy Kuntz, Manitowoc. In addition to his father and wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Debbie Sparks; and a sister, Sue (Gloria) Chinn.

Friends called at Thielen Funeral Home. Funeral services were held there April 16 with Rev. Douglas Schoen officiating. Burial was in Forest Home Cemetery.
