Anna L. Benson, 84, Nadeau, died Jan. 1, 2010, in Powers.

Anna Oslund was born Feb. 5, 1925, in Escanaba, to the late David and Edna (Peterson) Oslund. On March 29, 1944, she married Lloyd Benson in Escanaba. He preceded her in death Aug. 27, 2007. Anna worked as an LPN at Pinecrest Medical Care Facility for many years, later worked for Frigo Cheese. She was one of her grandchildren's greatest fans, following them through their sports careers. She also loved crocheting, bingo, knitting and playing cards.

She is survived by two daughters, Diane (Jerry) Mortier, Vulcan, and Chris (Ron) Ihander, Daggett; two sons, Douglas (Karen) and Ed, both of Carney; one sister, Mildred Anderson, Escanaba; two sisters-in-law, Edna Oslund, Kingsford, and June Oslund, Escanaba.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, David and Carl Oslund; and one brother-in-law, Walter Anderson.

A family time was held. Graveside services will be held in the spring. Anderson Diehm Funeral Home, Stephenson, is assisting the family.
A memorial fund has been established in Anna's name for the Pine Grove House, Pinecrest.

Dennis E. Decker, 61, Menominee, died Jan. 2, 2010, at Bay Area Medical Center.

He was born July 7, 1948, in Menominee to Sylvester and Kathleen (Laduron) Decker.
Dennis spent most of his life in Menominee and was a graduate of Menominee High School, Class of 1966. That same year he entered the United States Army, serving in the Vietnam War until his discharge in 1968. He was a 100 percent disabled war veteran.
He married Julie A. Bero April 25, 1969. Beginning in 1974, he was employed at Karl Schmidt Unisia, Inc. for 30 years. He was an outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing. He and Julie also traveled touring 49 out of the 50 states. He was a member of the Menominee VFW Post and the Menominee Police Auxiliary.

He is survived by his wife; three children, Bradley D. (Tracy) Decker, Marinette, Adam J. (Maranda) Decker, Menominee, and Amanda Decker, Arizona, four grandchildren;  brothers and sisters, Donna (Ron) Connaher, Peshtigo, Theodore (Sharon) Decker, FL, Darrell (Nada) Decker, FL, and Shelley (Fred) Rusetzke, Davison, MI; step-mother, Velma Decker, Menominee, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, and step-father, Floyd Johnston; and brother, Duane.

Friends may call at Hansen Onion Martell Funeral Home, Marinette, from 4 until 8 p.m. on Jan. 6. VFW visitation at 5 p.m. in the funeral home.
Memorial donations to the American Cancer Society in the name of Dennis Decker appreciated.

Connie Marie Fadroski, 58, Stephenson, died Jan. 4, 2010, at Bay Area Medical Center, Marinette.

Connie Lesperance was born Feb. 5, 1951, in Daggett to the late Roy and Sophie (Batrya) Lesperance. On Oct. 24, 1974, Connie married Tim Fadroski at Precious Blood Catholic Church, Stephenson. Connie worked as shelter coordinator at  Rainbow House, Marinette. She enjoyed reading and watching movies. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with family, grandchildren and friends. She was a member of Precious Blood Catholic Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Jennifer (Paul) Anderson of Talbot and Gina (Benjamin) Blazek of Stephenson; one son, Mike Fadroski, Talbot; husband Tim Fadroski of Talbot; a sister, Carlata Sundstrom of Stephenson; two brothers, Richard Lesperance of Ingalls and Stanley (Linda) Lesperance of Stephenson; five grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Rose Morris.

Family and friends may call Jan. 7 at Anderson Diehm Funeral Home from 3 until 5:45 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 6 p.m. at the Church of the Precious Blood. Father Corey Litzner will officiate. Burial will be in Stephenson Township Cemetery.

Marie K. Felch, 85, Porterfield, WI, died Dec. 31, 2009, at Luther Home in Marinette.

She was born Sept. 2, 1924, at the family home in Birch Creek, a daughter of Cyril and Victoria (Bergfeldt) Tanguay.
Marie attended Birch Creek School, then helped on the family farm and also was employed as a companion and caregiver. She moved to Milwaukee to work in the war effort in a munitions factory, Badger Ordinance in Baraboo, WI. returning to the Menominee area, she worked at Lloyd Factory as a riveting team constructing B-24 bombers. After that she worked at Menominee Glove Factory. On May 24, 1947, she married Alfred Felch, eventually settling in Racine, until the mid 1970s, when they returned to reside in the Porterfield area. She liked to crochet, sew, garden and spending time with family.
She was a member of SS. Joseph and Edward Parish in Walsh, where she also participated as a member of the Christian Mothers Society.

She is survived by her son, Alvin, Soldiers Grove, WI; her daughter, Mary Ellen Hatton, Porterfield, four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; identical twin sister, Marian Felch, Porterfield; sisters, Adele Kanyuh, Menominee, and Marcella Lord, Rockford, IL; her brother, Gerald (Flossie) Tanguay, Birch Creek.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents; five brothers, George, Alfred, Theodore, Clifford, and Joseph; and four sisters, Mary, Eva, Virginia and Rosemary.

Friends called at the Thielen Funeral Home, Marinette, Jan. 4, 2010. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at SS. Joseph and Edward Church, Walsh.
A spring burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery.

Evelyn M. Fraik, 94, a former resident of Menominee, died Jan. 3, 2010, at the Luther Home.

Evelyn Conard was born July 4, 1915, in Stephenson, to the late Daniel and Carrie (Fredericksen) Conard.
She married Robert Fraik Aug. 31, 1935, in Daggett. He preceded her in death Feb. 11, 1954. Evelyn was a member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church where she was a member of the Women Home Mission, a 4-H leader and a member of the Menominee County Homemakers.

She is survived by one daughter, Mary (Jon) Nitkowski, Maryville, TN; one son, Robert (Joan) Fraik, Marinette, six grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
Along with her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, Donald; and one sister, Irene.

Friends may call Jan. 6 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Cadieu-Thielen Funeral Home, Menominee. Funeral Services will be held Jan. 7 at 1:30 p.m. from the Luther Home Chapel, Marinette. The Rev. Ken Michaelis and Rev. Darrell Diers will officiate.
Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Menominee.
A memorial fund has been established in Evelyn's name for the Northland Foundation in Marinette.

Barbara Marie Maus, 62, Wallace, died Dec. 30, 2009, at St. Vincent Hospital, Green Bay.

Barb Eland was born Dec. 21, 1947, in Menominee, to the late Wesley, Sr. and Celena (Haulotte) Eland. On Aug. 16, 1966, she married Wesley (Bud) Maus in Stephenson. He preceded her in death June 15, 1984. She enjoyed cooking and baking. Her grandchildren were the light of her life. She was a member of Precious Blood Catholic Church.

She is survived by her son, Donny (Sarah) Maus, Wallace, three grandchildren; five sisters, Carol (John) Sandahl, and Donna (Jim) Sandahl both of Stephenson, Lois (David) Lemmerman, Milwaukee,                        Hazel (Clifford) Kozak, Daggett, and Betty (Tom) Rivard, Wallace; and one brother, Wesley, Jr. (Paula) Eland, Wallace.

Family and friends called at Anderson Diehm Funeral Home, Stephenson, Jan. 2, where funeral service was held. Father Corey Litzner officiated.
Burial was in Mellen Township Cemetery.

Marian B. Menacher, 86, a resident of Menominee, died Jan. 2, 2010, at the Luther Home in Marinette.

Marian Linsmeier was born Jan. 3, 1923, in Menominee, to the late Peter and Barbara (Bayerl) Linsmeier.
Marian married James Menacher May 3, 1947, in Birch Creek. He preceded her in death Aug. 5, 1996. She was a member of Resurrection Parish, the alter society of the church and the Menominee Senior Center.

She is survived by one daughter, Julie (Tony) Dziekonski; three sons, Jerry (Debbie), Jack (Linda) and Bob (Tara) Menacher, all of Menominee; one daughter-in-law, Wendy Myers, Wallace; 11 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren; one sister, Betty Anglehart, Marinette, nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, James; and four brothers, Robert, Peter, William and Elmer.

A  Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Jan. 6, at 11 a.m. from Resurrection Parish. Friends may call at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the mass. The Rev. Fr. Robb Jurkovich will officiate.
Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Menominee.
A memorial fund has been established in Marian's name.
The Cadieu Thielen Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Arlene (Strohl) Rintala, 83, died Dec. 13, 2009, in Appleton.

She was the youngest in the family of Leonard and Mary Strohl.
She attended and graduated from Daggett High School in 1943. She married Carl Rintala in November of 1949. They lived in Negaunee most of their life.

She is survived by her daughter, Carlene (Larry), two grandsons; and one brother, Arthur, Stephenson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dec. 25, 2001.
 
James B. Smith Sr. PDF Print E-mail
James B. (Jim) Smith Sr., 57, Powers, died unexpectedly at his home Dec. 22, 2009, of an apparent heart attack.

On May 16, 1952, Jim was born in Escanaba, the son of Allen F. and Daisy M. (Heim) Smith.
Jim attended Bark River-Harris Schools.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corp until his honorable discharge April 9, 1971. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
Jim drove truck for Stenberg Brothers Inc. and also was an over-the-road truck driver for different companies.

Survivors include his children, James (Pamela Carey) Smith Jr., Escanaba, Kevin Smith, Escanaba and Tonya Mitch McCullough), Wilson; seven grandchildren; brothers, Allan (Janice Smith), Jacksonville, FL and Robert (Sheree) Smith, Bark River; sisters, June (Clyde) Schoen, Hermansville, Lorraine (Herman) Kleiman, Powers; and Kathy (Rodney) LaMarche, Escanaba.

Visitation was held at he Crawford Funeral Home in Escanaba. The Delta County Veterans' Council military rites were held there Jan. 2.
The Crawford Funeral Homes assisted the family.

Lorraine Eva Stanislawski, 91, Menominee, died Dec. 31, 2009, at Pinecrest Medical Care Facility, Powers.

Lorraine Floyd was born April 7, 1918, in Rockland, MI, to the late John and Eva (Morin) Floyd. She married Rodney Seid. He preceded her in death during WWII. She then married Henry Stanislawski Feb. 7, 1947. He preceded her in death Feb. 12, 2007. She worked for Emerson Electric and later worked for Kmart. She enjoyed bowling, golfing and playing cards at the Menominee senior Center. Most important to Lorraine was time spent with all her grandchildren. She was a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, VFW Auxiliary, Extension Club, and past member of North Shore Golf Club.

She is survived by her son, Jerry (Judi) Seid, Menominee, three grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; half brother, Wilbur Floyd, Ontanogon; and half sister, Annabelle Bjorn, Detroit.
She was preceded in death by a half sister.

Mass of Christian Burial was held Jan. 5, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. Father Ron Skufca officiated.
Burial was in Birch Creek Cemetery.
Anderson Diehm Funeral Home, Stephenson, assisted the family with arrangements.
