Gertrude A. Cusack, 94, Marinette, died Feb. 8, 2010, at Rennes Health Care Center East.

She was born Dec. 9, 1915, to the late Arthur and Gertrude (Behnke) Olsen in Marinette.
Gert graduated from Our Lady of Lourdes High School and worked for her family owned business, Olsen's Restaurant in Marinette. She moved to Milwaukee to attend beauty school. Gert married Edgar Cusack Dec. 29, 1951, in Manitowoc. He preceded her in death Nov. 16, 2001. They resided in Milwaukee until 1966, when they moved back to Marinette and established Ed & Gert's Cusack's Tap, which they ran for 35 years. She was a member of the Marinette County Tavern League and Holy Family Parish. She enjoyed traveling, bowling, ice skating, reading, cooking, working crossword puzzles, saying the Rosary daily and spending time with her family.

Gert is survived by three daughters, Jacqueline (Gene) Lassiter, Alexander, AR, Debbie (fiancé Gerald Bertrand) Schahczenski, Menominee and Patti (Mark) Rehwinkel, Marinette; a brother, Alton Olsen Sr.; two sisters-in-law; Peggy Dean and Marge Jarisch; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by a brother, Gerald Olsen; brother-in-law, Dave Dean; sister-in-law, Ruth Olsen; sons-in-law: Arvid Schahczenski and Harvey Whitton.

Friends called at the Thielen Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass was held Feb. 13 at Holy Family Parish - Our Lady of Lourdes Church with Rev. Joseph Dorner officiating.

Caroline L. Gerue, 75, Stephenson, died Feb. 14, 2010, at Roubal Care and Rehab Center.

Carol Carron was born Feb. 10, 1935, in Stephenson, to the late George and Lucille (Hamernik) Carron. On Oct. 1, 1955, she married Dean Gerue in Menominee. She worked as a nurse's aid at Roubal's Nursing Home as well as cleaning homes. She enjoyed flower gardening, cooking, camping, fishing and above all else, time spent with her family. Carol was a member of Precious Blood Catholic Church, Stephenson.

She is survived by her husband; two daughters, Gail (Dan) Damaschke, Carney, and Cathy Gerue, Green Bay; one son, Troy (Lori), Stephenson, six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren' one brother, Richard Carron, Salem, SC, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one son-in-law, Dan Damaschke.

Visitation: Anderson Diehm Funeral Home, Stephenson, Feb. 17 after 4 p.m. with prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation continues at the funeral home Feb. 18 from 11 until 11:45 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12 noon at Precious Blood Catholic Church, Father Corey Litzner officiating.
Burial will be in Mellen Township Cemetery.

Calvin Raymond Hall, Jr., 67, Menominee, died Feb. 4, 2010, at Roubal Care and Rehab Center, Stephenson.

Calvin was born Dec. 18, 1942, in Menominee, to Joy (Pecotte) and the late Calvin Hall, Sr. On July 1, 1967, he married Elaine Page in Stephenson. Calvin worked as an electrician in the construction industry for many years. He enjoyed car pentry, fishing, hunting and spending time with family and friends. He was a member of Precious Blood Catholic Church.

He is survived by his mother; two daughters, Tina Nyman, Menominee, and Teresa Hall, Illinois; two sons, Troy and Scott Hall, Menominee, seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his wife; daughter, Amy Joy Hall; and Brian Andrew Hall.

Family and friends may call Feb. 19 at Anderson Diehm Funeral Hall, Stephenson, from 4 p.m. until time of memorial ser vice at 6 p.m. Father Corey Litzner will officiate.
Burial will be in Stephenson Township Cemetery.
 
Dorothy Lampinen PDF Print E-mail
Dorothy Mae Lampinen, 87, formerly of Daggett, died Feb. 11, 2010, at Pinecrest Medical Care Facility, Powers.

Dorothy was born June 10, 1922, in Menominee, to the late Albert and Ora (Therriault) Cole. She married Reino (Ray) Lampinen Oct. 22, 1943, in Menominee. Dorothy was a homemaker and also worked at Lloyd Manufacturing and Robinson Furniture. She was a member of VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed cooking and baking and being with grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband; one daughter, Donna (Ken) Linder, Carney; and one son, David (Nickie) Lampinen, Plant City, FL, seven grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Nancy Brix, Marinette, and Eileen LaCount, Escanaba.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Albert and Robert.

Funeral service was held Feb. 14 at Anderson Diehm Funeral Home, Stephenson. Marty Laurila officiated.
Burial was in Maple Grove, Oakwood.
 
Raymond Lessard PDF Print E-mail
Raymond L. Lessard, 71, of 2419 14th Road, Bark River, died Feb. 2, 2010, at St. Francis Hospital.

He was born Dec. 15, 1938, in Escanaba, the son of Rayne and Elsie (Trousil) Lessard. He attended Bark River School and resided in Bark River all of his life.
He and his dad, Rayne,  operated the Lessard Dairy and Potato Farm. Rayne died in 1998 and Raymond operated the farm until retiring in 2000.
He was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church.

He is survived by a sister, Betty (Charles)  Arnold, Walled Lake, MI, nephews,  and aunt, Theresa Nault, Bark River, and cousins.

Visitation was held at the Crawford Funeral Chapel in Bark River. The Mass of Christian Burial was held Feb. 8 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Bark River, with Rev. Mark McQuesten officiating.
Burial was in Bark River Cemetery.
 
Captain David Thompson PDF Print E-mail
Captain David John Paul Thompson, 39, Pinehurst, NC, was killed in Wardak Province, Afghanistan, Jan. 29, 2010, while serving as an Army Special Forces Officer in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. He was in command of Operational Detachment Alpha in his second development to Afghanistan with the Special Forces. Previously he had a tour with the 10th Mountain Division.

On June 6, 2002, he married Emily Roberts in Toms River, NJ.

He served in the U.S. Army for 17 years. Following enlisted service, and a tour with the Rangers in Alaska, he attended East Carolina University where he received a commission through ROTC. Among his 23 awards and decorations was the Bronze Star for Valor.

He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Isabelle and Abigail, Pinehurst, parents, Charles and Freida Thompson; sister, Alicia, Hinton, OK; father-in-law, Archie Roberts, Wallace; mother-in-law, Susan Bryant, Charlotte, NC.

Following escort ceremonies at Dover Air Force Base, DE and Pope Air Force Base, NC, funeral services were held at Grace Presbyterian Church, Pinehurst, Feb. 7. A memorial service was held at the Special Forces Chapel, Ft. Bragg, NC, Feb. 10.
Burial was in Arlington National Cemetery, Feb. 17 with full military honors.
 
Reuben Thorpe PDF Print E-mail
Reuben Carl Thorpe, Arlington Heights, IL, was born Dec. 13, 1939, in Stephenson, to Elving and Clara (Larson) Thorpe. He died Feb. 9, 2010, in Arlington Heights.

He was a superintendent at Chicagoland Paving from June 2008 until December 2009, a project manager in land development for Saratoga Homes in 2007, a project manager for Joe Keim Land Corporation from 1997 until 2007 and a foreman/superintendent at several road construction firms. He was a member of Northwest Covenant Church. He served on the church's finance board in charge of church properties, he was chair of the program board, a member of the men's fellowship board, an usher, a Sunday school teacher and was on the de sign subcommittee building committee.

He is survived by his wife Connie (Nelson) Thorpe; children, Joanne (Terry) Ruch and Jeffrey Thorpe; three grandchildren, siblings, Roger (Eileen) Thorpe, Don (Dolores) Thorpe and Lorraine (Cordell) Wellman, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his step-mother, Ellen (Dahlstrom) Thorpe.

Visitation was held Feb. 12, at Glueckert Funeral Home, Arlington Heights. Memorial service was held Feb. 14 at Northwest Covenant Church, Mt. Prospect.
Interment was private.
